Canadian singer/songwriter Rick Scott is clearly crazy! Judging from the enhanced video on the CD-ROM for his song 'Angels Do', he has the ability to laugh at himself and life. There's a huge cute factor to this two-track single that employs and intriguing mix of music. 'Angels Do' is actually a song written for and inspired by Rick's granddaughter Mielle who was born with Down's Syndrome. She also appears in the video! Musically the song has a wry humour, catch chorus and is also a positive expression on behalf of special needs children. It's good that a Christian artist should want to be involved in such a good cause. The song itself is a wonderful mix of American roots music - dulcimer, violin, bodhran, etc - but then just to take it over the edge he throws in some tables to add an off kilter flavour. The second song isn't quite so enthralling. 'Grandma' is a kids' song paying homage to Grandma and is just a little over sentimental. Overall though, this is interesting stuff and a good taster for a Rick Scott album. Now that's something I'd like to check out!
