Ricky Lee plays an engaging style of country/acoustic roots music with a hint of good-time Southern boogie, and this preacher's kid's musical odyssey through mainstream country music fame and fortune into Christian ministry has provided him with much raw material for his well-crafted upfront gospel songs. The opening track "Shake It Off" reminded me a little of Mark Heard; "Here Am I" is almost Glen Campbell, but my fave track on first play is "Love Never Fails", a paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13 that is nicely radio-friendly. According to the biographical notes I received with the album, this is the first in a series of self-penned projects, and if the rest of them are as good as this, I shan't complain.
