This talented Washington-based singer has a vocal style that mixes traditional black gospel roots with classical and jazz influences. His debut CD features original compositions (from the jazzy "The Call" to the smooth R&B groove on "For Granted") and arrangements of familiar hymns and gospel songs (including the toe tapping "Walking Up The King's Highway"). It's an interesting mix of sounds though one wonders to whom this album will appeal in its entirety. However, what stands out on 'The Call' is this man's amazing vocal range and tone. So it is unfortunate that the producer on some tracks has plumped for routine introduced too much of drum/percussion programming, as it distracts you from the beauty of some of the well written lyrics as he sings of his love for the Lord with his velvety voice. The sleevenotes quote Psalm 89:1 "I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations." Amen to that Robert.
