Robert Houston and his 20-member choir True Dedication are based in Kansas City, where they've been making quite an impression for a number of years, picking up various awards at Kansas City's Gospel Awards ceremony for a number of recordings released over recent years. 'Never Forget' is their latest, a collection of 10 home-grown songs, many of them written by Mr Houston, who also co-produced the project. It's only on two songs, though, that Rev Houston picks up the lead mic - and that's what makes this such a varied and interesting recording; viz the fact that so many different team members help in the writing or delivery of various tracks. Kisha Macdonald's velvety tones grace a couple of soulful tunes, and executive producer Renee Gray leads on another. One of the most attractive songs is a fine choral piece, "Things Happen When You Pray", which contains a touch of rap from Clifford Mills, another key player in this venture. And the music is as diverse as the performers - a delightfully mixed bag of appealing, melodic gospel songs of varying tempos and constitutions - with some truly superb saxophone overtones on nearly every track. This is a wonderfully uplifting recording, and a team to watch out for in the future.
