Those sample trucks on the Cross Rhythms Experience will have no doubt whetted many an appetite for this, the follow up to that comedy classic 'Jurassic Church' and like its predecessor it bristles with wit, a well developed sense of the surreal and, under the careful production guidance of Gary Houston and Ken Smith, no little musical savvy. If you've yet to catch Rodd And Marco at a fest or mission near you, maybe I should explain that the two Californians now living in Scotland specialise in references to current pop cultural icons - in this case everything from the X Files to martial arts movies - mixing in go-for-the-throat evangelistic exhortations, and shake their concoction well with an eclectic bag of musical references like salsa ("Come To The Fiesta"), hillbilly ("Cow, Pig 'n' Sinner") and James Brown funk ("Hot Sins"). The piece-de-resistance this time is "The Grand Inquisitor" with guest Sammy Homer playing the cruel tormenter condemning hapless victims to listen to ghastly Cedarmont Kids-style kiddy praise songs! Killingly funny. With the church still desperately needing to rediscover belly laughs this brilliantly conceived album hits home hard.
