Every now and again you get a release that catches you by surprise and here's one. Some original worship recordings from a Lancashire-based band whose focus is to develop worship songs that work within youth culture. The CD features four songs plus one dance remix and all of them connect! The opener "New Day" immediately places the voice of frontwoman Sam Mcvey to the fore. A little reminiscent of Blueberry, but this has a prophetic worship focus and "New Day" is packed with optimism of God moving, which is also echoed on the buoyant, powerful "This Is My Future". "You Are My Shelter" really showcases Sam's voice in an intimate ballad setting as she worships an awesome God. "All The People" launches out with some furious grungy chunky guitar work, congas, and believe it or not, a shofar providing suitable Biblical trumpet sound! The CD finishes with a dance remix of "New Day" which adds a different musical slant to an excellent song. Overall SMVB promise a great deal and this is a very good introduction to a band on their way up. Why not book them for a youth event in your church?
