Two albums for the price of one fairly crackle from these Ohio rockers. Although there are many Stateside bands in this genre, Sanctus really rock. 25 tracks from their 2002 and 2004 albums form great value for newcomers to the band. In fact Brits have been slow to appreciate this top notch band, and this double CD from EMI's 'Two For One' series would serve as a great intro for newcomers to the band. This is a group that likes to convey their faith simply and clearly. For example, the track "Inspiration" from their 'Say It Loud' debut is a strong rocker with a memorable melody and strong guitar production. The lyrics include: "Seems we'll never do enough to tell the world about God's love/But every soul is worth the fight/'Cause we can change the world by changing just one life." Sanctus Real's greatest strength is their power rock sound, balancing exhilarating loudness with exquisite melody. Chris Rohman shows himself to be a rangy guitarist, switching between veneered walls of sound, bellowing improvisation, straightforward rhythmic chords and the occasional archetypal rock guitar solo. Matt Hammitt is a powerful rock singer who projects the melodies beautifully with his raspy voice. The standout track from 'Fight The Tide' is the rattling opener "Everything About You", although the electric "Message" runs it close. Driving Christian rock at its best.
