Producer Greg Nelson has a formula for Sandi, one that’s seen hundreds of thousands of album sales down the years. Get her Streisand-esque tones soaring on devotional ballads which often start with gentle piano and end with cascading violins and a big female choir. Throw in as many key changes as possible and you get, for her fans at least, music that truly reflects the wonder and majesty of God. It’s a formula that has hardly changed down the years and to many Brits will be a musical style exuding bombast and melodrama.
