'Das Leben Wird Zu Glas', which translates as 'Life Turns To Glass', is the latest release from the band formerly known as Brain(FAQ). A curious mix of metalcore and industrial metal, it is also sung entirely in German, which will lessen its appeal in the UK and US markets. Small sections of the lyrics are translated into English, giving a tantalising glimpse into the sometimes dark, sometimes biblical subject matter. Bass heavy riffs dominate along with a thudding drum attack. Vocalist Andreas Herrmann alternates between growls and "clean" vocals to varying degrees of success. The growled parts of "Feuer" (Fire) and "Morgen" (Morning) are particularly grating and out of tune, yet "Gefangen" (Caught) and "Niemals" (Never) work much better. The clean vocals work better on the whole, with an almost gothic quality to them. This is an album which will grow on you if given a chance.
