Since its foundation in September 2006, brass quartet Scherzo Brass has enjoyed a remarkable run of success and has established itself as one of the country's leading young ensembles. The members originally met through the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain before progressing to the Royal Northern College of Music. Following their undergraduate studies, the quartet became the first ensemble to be accepted onto the prestigious Masters in Chamber Music course at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Since winning the title of British Open Quartet Champions 2007, as well as first prize in the prestigious Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition 2008, Scherzo Brass has been in demand nationwide and enjoys a busy schedule of performances. Appearances have included the National Youth Brass Band Championships, the Black Dyke Brass Arts Festival, the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass and the Great Northern Brass Arts Festival.

The quartet is committed to engaging with communities in the North West of England and to making live music available to children with special needs. They frequently visit schools across the area giving master classes and working as part of various outreach projects. In 2009 they joined 'Live Music Now', the largest provider of music to the UK's welfare, educational, justice and health sectors.
