Scottish singer Scott Nicol fronts the band Maybe I'm Dreaming (you might remember them when they were plain old MID) but he seems to be so bursting with songs that Scott also releases solo projects. 'Unique World' actually features a couple of songs with his band but for the most part this is a solo project with a selection of sidekicks helping him out. Not sure whether it's the fact he's Scottish or the prominent presence of Lorraine Handling's female vocal counterfoil that makes me often think of Deacon Blue when I listen to this. Scott is a great songwriter and with his distinctive smoky soulful vocal style, there's no doubting his talents. At the same time, there's plenty of diversity in styles here and I love the variety from the piano-based roots of "Openness And Love" and "Who Am I?" through to the rockier "No Hatred" and "Inspired By". Obviously low budget when it comes to production and there are a few moments when it shows but generally Scott acquits himself well and deserves respect.
scott nicol is purely fantastic. saw him at an acoustic set at the bean scene in ayr. me and my mates loved it. keep up the superb work.
