As good a new American rock band as you’ll get to hear this year, Seven Places have everything it takes to make it big. There’s the same gutsy guitar sound and ability to pluck anthemic, radio friendly hooks that catapulted Audio Adrenaline to the CCM big time while Seth Gilbert has an achingly expressive voice which soars above the guitar layers. Lyrics are hearteningly Jesus focused, with themes like the omnipresence and supreme importance of the Lord (“Everything”), the Lord’s forgiveness of our sins (“Like It Never Happened”), the wind up of the age (“It Might Be Today”) each given engaging melodies you just know will sound great coming out of our radios. Gradually Seattle’s Tooth & Nail/BEC have been pitching in more commercial pop rock alongside their hard music fare and Seven Places could turn out to be the band that go big for them. Anyway, if you like the melodic end of rock, you’ll want to check these guys out.
