Two things are clear from this album about Shane Beales' relationship with his hometown of Liverpool. Firstly, he loves the place and second, he yearns for God to move through the city. It is unusual to find a worship album so clearly targeted at a single location, and the interesting thing about this one is that the listener feels perfectly entitled to sing the songs and call on God to do all the same things for their home town. Beales' songs are highly individual. They are rarely built on any obvious structure (though across the album he clearly likes rhyming triplets), and one senses that the words (poetry) came first and the melodies second. This is not a criticism, but rather a strength, because all of these songs are interesting with twists and turns and worth the listen. It is in general an acoustic sound over 13 tracks and 50 minutes, but there is a huge amount of variety in there. It is largely Beales' lone voice carrying the words, but again there is just the right amount of variety and choir support for this to be a positive. This is not corporate worship, but it clearly is worship, and contagious at that.
