Already experienced in classical music, jazz and R&B, Shirley Murdock cut her teeth as a gospel artiste working on the 'Woman Thou Art Loosed' recordings and tours with Bishop TD Jakes. That musical versatility is much in evidence on this solo venture - featuring some impressive vocal acrobatics, its curtain raiser is the soulful "It's In Your Hands", then it's a full-on R&B groove with "Somebody", before the traditional gospel stylings of "Never Let You Down" pull the pace right back again. And that's just for starters. Jazz influences fuse with gospel on "Thy Way" - more along those lines would have been very welcome, but ballads like "The Dream That Would Not Die" and "We Need A Word From The Lord" seem to be Shirley's real forte.
