Not the British R&B gospel Sign Of The Times, but the new band formed by virtuoso rock/metal guitarist Jeff Scheetz known best to British headbangers for his frequent visits to the Meltdown teach-ins. I'd always found Scheetz's instrumental solo albums examples in technique pushing out soul so I welcomed the news that Jeff had brought in a vocalist (a gritty voiced Adam Dean) and settled on songs rather than clever but (for me) empty exercises in fret flaying pyrotechnics. Not that devotees of the awesome Scheetz axe virtuosity are short changed, his extraordinary runs blister and explode throughout 'Disengage'. I liked the bluesy mid tempo "Promised Land" (complete with Martin Luther King samples - surely a bit overused by now?) and the full tilt "Are You Listening". Pitched half way between heavy rock and metal this is a set guaranteed to please devotees of raw rock and players (like me) of air guitar.
