Reeeal ole tahm gospel hits town with Slim and his Angels, soundalikes for the Five Blind Boys Of Alabama (minus about 30 years!). Big time testifying, some Deep South type preaching and plenty of raising the rafters make a recipe to whet the jaded pallet of anyone who believes that real gospel died and went to heaven. Recorded live at Jubilee Jam in Jackson, Mississippi, the show opens with a story about death and the beautiful lady, a modern parable which says that, despite any outward beauty. Father Time catches up with us all and death 'drops by to visit the neighbourhood" to remind us that he's not far off. A subtle way of telling us to get our lives sorted! Tough messages from the Boys, reminding us in "Church Folk" that "sin ain't nothin' but sin". Ain't that the truth, chile! It's a jolly mix of simple yet sincere old time religion, preach-it-brother vocals and sonic (unintentionally) hilarious colloquialisms. Check out "Don't Trust A Snake (It's A Big Mistake)" and you'll see exactly what I mean! Culturally it's pretty incongruous, but if you've seen any old footage of "50's gospel, you'll get the picture! They ain't done gone make 'em like this no more!
