Trying to work out whether there’s a resurgence of Christian music in New Zealand or whether Cross Rhythms is just beginning to plug into the scene down there. Soda appear to be a band with an eye on America as this CD features the indie-rock sound which seems to be so popular at the moment. Lyrically, these are songs that suit seekers so that “Concrete City” is basically the Gospel message and “Locked Out” describes a life away from God. Coded poetic songs reflect spiritual concerns that spill out across the album in subtle ways. Musically, this has a serious vibe with pop melodies being sublimated into a jangly indie sound to fine effect.
