Down the years, Kingsway have released literally dozens of Songs Of Fellowship albums, some being original recordings and some being compilations, but all intended to work alongside the groundbreaking series of songbooks which, since the '70s, have been instrumental in taking contemporary worship into a broad range of churches. Now Kingsway have released a six disc collection of 100 worship songs from the much loved resource. The quality of song material on offer here cannot be argued with and care has been taken to include lesser known tracks such as Dave Fellingham's "Ruach" and a great version of Tommy Walker's "Mourning Into Dancing" which make a welcome appearance alongside the over-compiled "In Christ Alone", "Shout To The Lord" and "Once Again". Other than that, this release sadly takes few risks and therefore falls short on a number of levels. For instance, all 100 songs are performed in the same manner as live recordings with what sounds like the same two unnamed worship leaders throughout. Despite the obvious abilities of all involved, the sheer quantity of material begs for at least a slight variation in presentation other than the occasional foray into some Celtic style worship which itself sounds dated. In addition, the most recent song dates back to 2001 and, as a result, makes this particular compilation seem like an exercise in covering old ground given that the majority of the material has been featured several times over on other worship releases. There is no dispute that you get your money's worth when it comes to the number of songs per pound but more could have been done to make this more appealing.
