Second album from talented singer, writer, producer Alexander East who records under the band name Sonik Boom Of Love. Hiding in a Minneapolis studio, he serves up sweet soul vocals, tight harmonies and plenty of grooves, which touch on dance here and there but are mainly R&B focused. Sometimes it reminds me of the soulful end of Terence Trent D’Arby, especially on “Your Love Was Meant For Me” and the absolutely brilliant, soulful “You Know I Would”, and this as much for his vocal ideas as his musical statements. Tracks that light my fire include the funk of “Remember” and the clavinet-style groove of “The Departure Of U” as well as the more soulful “Deep In Your System”. Solidly spiritual, with R&B beats to punch a hole in your soul and a voice that melts into the music, ‘Boom Shock’ is a potent mix of influences, talent, catchy songs and strong ideas.
