The fascination of this tape is that Sonya's searched out a bevy of new songs, many from writers unknown to me. Mr. Newton's "Amazing Grace" is the only familiar ditty (imagine his royalties, eh!), so it's discovery all the way. The limitations of a low budget are clear enough, but the voice has its charm, and a lot of us are biased towards the type of artist offering a tape the proceeds of which presumably support her YWAM work, rather than some of the mega budget, mega hype, big biz product. Some good songs here, specially the moody "Until The End Of Time". "The City" has a gentle pop style, very mellow and warm with a poetic, encouraging lyric, typical of Sonya's material. This set has some very enjoyable, touching moments, just occasionally let down by slightly plodding arrangements. Strong on communication, oozing sincerity. A quiet little gem in its own way.
