The special musical projects that I've heard that have been put together to celebrate the new Millennium have ranged from very good to very bad. This one is different in that it's focusing on ecological and third world problems, but from a Christian standpoint, dealing with things like acid rain, pollution, the rain forests, and the ozone layer. The singers are all pupils at schools in the Nottingham area, ranging from nursery and primary, through junior to comprehensive, and the musical itself has been performed in public at one of Nottingham's biggest concert halls. Given the usual problems that haunt directors of children's choirs, the kids make a good fist of a batch of songs that are simple yet profound, and although the running time is short at just over 28 minutes, a lot of thought and effort has gone into this. The theme song chorus says it all: "Jesus is touching tomorrow, still saying he is the way/2000 years on there's a perfect new song, tuned up and ready to play." I wish that more of our schools would concentrate on projects like this that teach our kids positive Christian values, and full marks to the City of Nottingham Education Committee for supporting 'Touching Tomorrow'.
