Barry Rose is named as the director on the front of this CD, and since he left St Paul's over 10 years ago it shows just how old this recording is. However, since Barry Rose is also in the same rarefied league as David Willcocks and George Guest when it comes to choir directing, this is a fact easily forgiven. The singing is superb and the production has captured the atmosphere of the cathedral well. The title of the CD is Coronation Anthems And Hymns' but I for one would buy it more for the quality of the choir and the fact it includes some of the greats of the cathedral music repertoire from the last 100 years than for any royal connections. Running down the tracks, "I Was Glad", "O Taste And See" Credo from Vaughan Williams' "Mass In G Minor". And so it goes on. The fact that these pieces have been sung on various royal occasions is beside the point.
