Seems a bit of a genius Steve Hindalong! Whether it's beating the skins for The Choir or producing ambient worship music or even producing other artists, he always seems to be involved in music that is interesting. His solo release 'Skinny' (his own nickname) only continues to confirm this impression of him! There's the expected host of talent contributing to this including Troy Dougherty, Christine Glass, Mike Knott, Common Children's Marc Byrd, Matt Slocum and his cello, Gene Eugene, Tim Chandler and also producer Wayne Everett, Musically more acoustic in nature that some of his previous work, lyrically this is broad. Poetic and intriguing (for intriguing read baffling in some cases - what do some of these songs mean !?) However, I love songs that make you think a bit so is 'To Be A Blessing' ironic? I love "Eclipse" with its ambient guitar textures and story lyric. At the other extreme. 'Diggin' Your Style' and 'Candy' both rock out a little but my favourite song has to be the understated "Woe Is Skinny" with its confessional lyric, acoustic vibe and moody Slocum cello combining to full effect. Ultimately I have to confess to some disappointment here where "Skinny" falls short to my huge expectations. That's not to say this album isn't great, it's just not a classic.
