Formed in the summer of 1996, Strong Willed Children's seven-track debut disc highlights their ability to make aggressive yet melodic modern rock in a style which seems all the rage in America but there's a difference. Where other band's spiritual concerns are tied up in vague metaphors, SWC arc unashamed to combine an effective slice of rock with lyrics that are directly inspired by the Bible. The opening punch of "Quicksand" which attacks the dangers of pride is so fast that it leaves you reeling before you know it's happened. The highlights are "Unwanted Friend" which is a challenge to those who would have one foot in the Kingdom and another in the world - radical action is called for! My favourite is "Not Your Christ" which neatly knocks all Christian music ministries (including SWC) off their pedestals by reminding us that they're human too! And I just love the closing brooding power of "Strength" which builds into a punch the air authentic prayer for spiritual strength in the middle of weakness. I just love vocalist Rik Williams' spine tingling declaration. "God's strength is all I need" before the instrumental reprise at the close of the album. A fitting finish leaving the listener in no doubt where these guys stand!

I used to go to church with the Williams Family. I was close to Rick Williams the father of the leader of the band. His son, Rik, was a really cool guy. On fire for Christ. I miss them. I moved to Kentucky and lost touch with them. I have been looking for them ever since. Everyone I knew that knew them hasn't seen 'em.
