This music brought back some of my early memories of watching Top Of The Pops as a kid. So I was not that surprised when I found out that California-based 30 somethings Matt and Paul Liffengren, founder members of Sure Conviction, name among their influences Led Zeppelin and Elton John. The lyrics of this six part band gripped me from the opening cry of a seeker in "Are You There'.'", through to the celebration of God' power in the "Power Of One". "I Need You " is an example of a song that can be interpreted both as a human love song and as a longing for God's presence. In a similar vein, one memorable moment on the album is when, after he has just been dreaming of holding his girl "Thru The Night", the singer realises that "Love Is More Than A Feeling". I trust that these tasteful songs will not draw fire from the more prudish element in the Christian community. "I Can't Explain" is a poignant song of a man struggling lo bring God's wisdom into his friend's relationship breakdown. Typically of the tracks on this album, it is a song with a serious message that really rocks. I was also touched by "The Journey" that took me on a fast paced trip up the mountain of the Lord only to leave me with the saddening realisation that some people come into the high country of God's presence "but they can't remember what they saw along the sky." My only concern is that some people might not understand all the lyrics. Though some of the songs are about how God has changed their lives others contain deeper thoughts that I did not catch at first. Then again, this could be an advantage as you can keep on playing these songs over and over and get something fresh out of them each time. You could even just sit back and enjoy the sound of some good old rock and roll. If you like your rock classic and your lyrics deep then '54 And Change' is for you.

Wow, Dancin' Dave! Thanks for the wonderful review. A little late in me commenting but ran across this recently. Not to push my product but Sure Conviction released a Best of CD last year that you might be interested in reviewing/carrying.
