Ever since Mike Warnke's spectacular fall from grace in the '90s I've listened to very little comedy marketed as "Christian" other than Mark Lowry who is, to my mind, a far better singer and songwriter than he is a stand up comedian. So the sleeve info that Taylor Mason has had a spot on the Gaither Homecoming Tour (which, of course, has also showcased Lowry) didn't fill me with expectation. In some ways it was better than I thought with some genuinely funny jokes about Holiday Inn lounge singers, the world's worst blues song and driving in the US. Also Taylor shows an engaging line in self deprecation, playing up the fact that he has a large, round head. But too much of the humour is visually based. Taylor is among other things a ventriloquist which doesn't work too well on CD. No doubt the DVD works better.
