American singer/songwriter Tess has been living in Germany and working on her solo career. This, her second full album, was first released in 2004. She makes intriguing music that is fairly chilled with enough to keep the serious listener engaged while her enigmatic lyrics are often poetic. These tunes will touch something deep in your soul. After the opening title track the songs continue in this moody, reflective vein later seamlessly transitioning into worship with "My Fortress And My Shield", before becoming more up tempo with the final high energy "Shadow". Tess's acoustic guitar is prominent on most of the tracks and she is ably supported by her backing band but it is her emotive and enchanting voice that really stands out. The wonderful haunting melodies on this album show a singer and songsmith deserving wide exposure.
