Reviewed by Trevor Kirk Testimony is a band that is based at the Elim Pentecostal Church in Newport, IOW. Originally a quartet, but now a duo, the current line up is Ricky Payne, who was a professional musician with TV, radio and cabaret credits during his 16 year career, and Mark Woodford, who also had a professional mainstream career as a bass player. Former members who have now left the band but who appear on the CD are Kevin Hylton on keyboards, Josh Osborn on drums, and on some tracks Nigel Rowe on additional keyboards and flute. All credit is due to all concerned, as this self-penned and self-produced CD has been entirely self-financed. Quite often, such DIY projects end up as rather el cheapo disasters, but I'm pleased to say that the cringeometer hardly budged from zero whilst this one was playing. The style is a light pop, Ricky takes lead vocals on all the tracks, and whilst the songs are not Dove Award winners by any stretch of the imagination, they are easy to listen to and convey sound Biblical truth. It's good value as well, with the 12 tracks checking in at 53 minutes and 29 seconds. As Mr Barrymore might say, these guys are all Wight! (Sorry!)
