Prison songs are a staple ingredient of both country and folk music since time immemorial, so the opening track "Prison Famous" sounds very much in the Johnny Cash/Merle Haggard prison song genre. There is a real down home country feel on this six-track release. "Swinging Songs" again has a very strong Merle Haggard feel; "The Last Time" is a reflective piece on a life drawing to a close after failed relationships; and the closing gospel song "One Day Closer To Home" is a joy. Where this independent release sits in a market place now dominated by pop country acts, I'm not sure. But I can report that if you're a fan of old school country, delivered with lashings of grit and authenticity, this EP is for you.
