The five boys from Greenville, South Carolina have been playing together since 2003, but this is their first adventure in the studio as an ensemble. Offering four fresh, self-penned numbers, this EP demonstrates the art of writing catchy melodies, complemented by a rich backing of deep keyboards, funky bass lines and harmonised vocals - in fact an engaging radio friendly sound not dissimilar from Inpop's big act Newsboys. Kicking off the EP, "Your Light Shines" combines jazzy guitars and brass with energetic drumming to give something of an adrenaline rush taking you straight into the bouncy "Forever Changed", a slightly more relaxing number with a great vocal hook from the start. "Your Love Sets Me Free" is, for me, the strongest song on the disc, featuring a great melodic chorus, groovy bass and slightly syncopated drum beats enhanced by the classic gospel-like rotor organ sound. All in all, a great introduction to the band, here's hoping they get a chance to cut a full length.
