DJ Dove's chums the CMCs are the second rap release on his Holy Terra label. Mr Solo of The Gospel Gangstas has produced most of the tracks, so the mood is pretty similar to the Gangstas last album 'Do Or Die'. With half the album consisting of brooding productions and heavy lyrics, I found it altogether a bit gloomy. Having said that I grew up in Windsor which isn't exactly the mean streets. Perhaps in a gang-ruled ghetto this stuff makes more sense. Giving the flesh/sinful nature an 'Everyday Death Sentence' is the subject of the title track. It's got a good head nodding tune, ideal for trawling around your neighbourhood. A lighter flavour and a straight spread the word message greets us towards the end of the album, on the track entitled "S.O.W.". This is the only track on which DJ Dove does any production and the difference shows. I still maintain that if you want the tunes, Dove has got to be in the driving seat. But at the end of the day if you like the idea of (gospel) gangster rap I wouldn't trust my opinion. You will just have to ask your favourite book shop assistant to give you a listen.
