Oregon-based singer/songwriter and former Telecast frontman Josh White has become well known for turning out quality worship songs with musical integrity and lyrical freshness and this eponymous debut from his new band is no exception. Whilst proceedings kick off in fairly standard modern worship fashion with the pounding "The Blessed Light", it's not long before White and crew start offering something different from the norm yet still accessible. For instance, "Rest" is downright quirky while "Resignation" is atmospheric and haunting. Then there is a simply beautiful rendition of the old hymn "In Heavenly Love Abiding" (presented here under the title "Walk With Me") which not only showcases White's quietly stunning voice but also his intuitive ability to reach deep into the heart of the listener with striking, uncluttered songs about the love of Jesus. While 'The Followers' is not all solid gold - the somewhat plodding and laboured "Flood My Heart" being a case in point - there is more than enough on this otherwise accomplished debut to entice you back for more.
