Severely retro but nevertheless cool, Jamie Hailstone, the former Otis P Funkmeyer, returns with a charity single that is exquisitely leftfield and therefore wins approval in the Rimmer household! So you get Mr Hailstone drawing on three decades of influences! The title cut is a glorious piece of '70s white funk, driven by a superb bassline and fabulous bits of Hammond organ. Jamie's drawling half spoken half sung vocal seems to work really well here and I love the flowing guitar parts. Then we hit the '80s with a remix of the song that has the kind of groove and synth effects popular in 1983. Then it's back to the '60s with a cover version of "The Weight", written by Robbie Robertson and originally recorded by The Band. Here it's Jamie doing his best Hank Marvin singing impression! Actually it does sound a little like Robertson's "Somewhere Down The Crazy River". Spooky! This is all a lot of fun and a breath of fresh air!
