This incarnation of the International Staff Band Of The Salvation Army is led by bandmaster Dr Stephen Cobb and their latest release sees the group in stunning form as they showcase their 2009/10 concert repertoire. Those expecting mere brassed up versions of hymns and choruses will have their expectations blown out of the water as the band rattle their way through technically intricate and mesmerising pieces like band member Martin Cordner's stirring march "South Shields Celebration" and the uplifting title track. The band are expertly able to switch from their impressive powerhouse mode to a more reflective sound as evidenced in the "The Higher Plane" and snippets of popular Christian songs have been slotted in throughout to give an anchor in perhaps unfamiliar musical waters. This works particularly well and the snatch of "Blessed Be The Name Of The Lord" in the epic "Turris Fortissima" will make you punch the air in delight whilst the inclusion of "All Creatures Of Our God And King" sounds as though it was meant to be part of Cordner's "Let Everything Praise!" from the outset. Solo turns from Gary Fountain (soprano cornet) and Derick Kane (euphonium) are the icing on the cake of this matchless release from one of the world's elite brass bands.
