Reviewed by Tony Cummings The Mandate is, as far as I know, Europe's biggest Christian men's conference and now that it takes place at Belfast's Odyssey Arena it has an atmosphere, as this live CD conveys, which is at times quite breathtaking. Since his link up with Integrity Music, Robin Mark has become a major figure on the international worship scene and here, helped by a fine band, he leads a throng through a well selected set of songs and choruses. Particularly good is a stirring version of Keith Green's "There Is A Redeemer" though some could argue that songs like "Amazing Grace", the Maranatha! Music chorus "As The Deer" and "Be Thou My Vision" are just a bit too predictable even though these versions are presented with passionate Celtic aplomb. Overall, this is an album with enough impact to reach far beyond the men who actually attended the Odyssey Arena on 17th November 2007.

Since 1995 men from all over the UK and Ireland have been making the journey to Belfast for a day of fellowship, worship and teaching. In an age when the image of manhood is being obscured by action movies and advertising, Christ, the ultimate role model, calls us to simply follow him. He is all powerful, yet never uses his power to put people down. He is all knowing, yet never uses his knowledge to humiliate others. He is all loving, yet never uses his meekness to manipulate others.
The worship at the Mandate conference is very unique and previously has been captured on live recordings by the likes of Robin Mark and Stuart Townend.
In November 2007 worship leader Robin Mark returned to Mandate, to again lead this gathering of men in worship to our God. |
