'Light Up' is a four-track EP from the Harrogate-based progressive Americana band who have been making a name for themselves for a while now and recently signed to new independent label Light Song. The EP starts with the title track, an up tempo folk rock number with jangling guitars working round a violin and banjo riff. This is followed by a very mellow and sparse ballad "Nothing" - with quirky three loud harmonic notes punctuating the introduction and bridge - and the single and Cross Rhythms radio hit "Ain't No Grave", a traditional straight up country gospel romp, popularised by Johnny Cash. The band's version features guest vocals from Rosie D and Kat Priestly and it really is a gem. The EP closes with a unique take on "Psalm 30", written by Jeff Lowe. It works really well. If you like your Americana with a touch of Yorkshire grit, this is an EP really worth listening to. And I've heard reports that they're really good live, too.
