Southern gospel is something of a joke in the UK; y'know, all them thar mama's boys waving the star spangled banner, grinning mercilessly, and singing about cabins in the sky. They also tend to have daft names. The close up, intense emotion and sincerity does come over as very polished and rehearsed. As George Burns said, "The most important thing in life is sincerity. Impersonate that and you've got it made." So there are barriers. If you can surmount them, some superb harmony singing waits on the other side. Two albums nailed together here, the first set's country-based, the quartet displaying instrumental prowess on top of vocal brilliance. As stated, there follows an acappella outing, very fine, even jaw-dropping in places. Mainly unfamiliar songs; if you enjoy magnificent harmony singing then Diana at Crossways Records will be pleased to get this for you.
