It's difficult to stand still when listening to The Rex Carroll Band, as the grove that the Christian rock veteran brings from his guitar is, as expected from such a well-known technical guitarist, fit for God himself. The Rex Carroll Band is a long way from the metal of Whitecross. Instead this is timeless blues rock on which the axe man has put his original stamp. Songs such as "Working Man Blues" show the guitarist's talent and attitude in fine colours, while the slower, more melodic, semi-acoustic Texan ballad that is "My Train" shows another side of the band's talent. With some tasty solos and lyrics that speak timeless truths, there's plenty here to keep the listener engaged. Rex isn't as well known for his vocals as his guitar skills, but his gruff, deep voice carries the songs with suitable Southern rock swagger. There are better vocalists out there, but there are few better guitarists, and that is what makes this album so good.
