The S.O.G. Crew (Sons Of God) are based in Southern California and provide an evangelistic ministry to Japanese, Mexican and Native Americans. Even so, their musical style is typically West Coast, gangsta rap. The rhythms are a bit old-skool, and some of the sounds are perhaps slightly cheesy, but the rhymes are delivered strong and with conviction and authority. The style is hardly groundbreaking, but it is appealing enough, and each member of the crew obviously has experience and skill. They reminded this reviewer a little of the Gospel Gangstas, but with more youthful energy. The lyrical content reflects their ministry and evangelistic heart, confronting gangster issues ("Roll Da Window Down", "Try 2 Murder Me"), and delivering personal testimony ("Hard To Believe" and "My Life"). With more varied musical production, their appeal could be broadened, but perhaps they prefer to stay true to their chosen demographic.
