Country music's vintage years of the 40s and 50s produced an array of superb duo acts which included such stars as the Everly Brothers. Ira And Charlie Louvin produced a brand of homely, rural Louisiana country music, chock full of powerful, sentimental yet tough gospel songs. Hillbilly music? Yes, but why not, they stuck that label on Elvis! The Whitstine Bros have recorded three previous albums of their old-time country music over a 10-year period; this is a tribute to the influence of their personal heroes. The performances are razor-sharp vocally, with sparse, sparkling acoustic accompaniment. Their own smooth guitar and mandolin work is supplemented by just bass and second guitar. Quite right too, unfussy and authentic to the core. Fine example of the joys of good old country gospel.
