This album has 20 hymns from centuries apart that speak about themes from acceptance and mercy to grace and vision. Mostly sung in harmony in a choral fashion by a small group of singers and accompanied by piano, organ and woodwind, the music was recorded at Moortown Baptist Church and St Margaret's, Prestwich. Some verses are sung solo and have a very pure sound with lovely crystal clear notes while other songs have a more operatic portrayal. Amongst the collection of hymns are the wonderful ancient ones "And Can It Be?", "When I Survey", and "Amazing Grace" to name but three. There are also the more modern "From Heaven You Came" and "All I Once Held Dear". But if truth be told, there are many better hymn compilations around and even attaching a beloved TV personality's name to this doesn't hide its deficiencies.
