You can almost imagine young Tom sitting out on the patio of a summer's evening, strumming away and entertaining the family with his rootsy pop ditties - this is perfect summer music. I reckon that Tom's been listening to Athlete over the past months as the delivery tips a fraction of a wink to Joel Potts' vocal mannerisms, and there are one or two suggestions of Coldplay's Chris Martin here and there too. And I do like the subtle touches of instrumentation here and there. The playing is not the tightest ever, but this is all about feel - and some neat lyrical ideas ("turn off your TV and look at your lady." from "Look At Your Lady" - wise advice sir). Elsewhere the Colplay-esque "Honey (Is This Love)" and the very cool "Caffeine People" wherein Overton shows some nifty guitar licks mark him out as an artist from whom I'd really like to hear some more. If only I'd received it at the start of the summer instead of near the end, but somehow I doubt that Admiral Cummings will let me hang onto it until next summer trickles around!
