Takes me back to when I spent a couple of days in the Rhonnda Valley. There was nothing to do, the chip shop being closed, and gazing longingly into said shop window what should I see but a poster advertising a Treorchy Male Voice Choir concert along the road. The alternative being yet another 7-hour discussion of the pregnancy problems of the snail on the wall of No 23, off I went. Apart from trying to stop mother-in-law raising her arms in worship whenever she recognised a tune her church has pinched for a hymn (it's all in Welsh y'see, so you can't tell) it was an eye opener, powerful stuff from a mighty choir long recognised as one of the finest in the tradition. Most of the material I heard at the concert was far more challenging and satisfying than this programme of easy-peasy gospel songs of he "Blessed Assurance", "In The Garden" type. So although this is okay, it's certainly not the choir at its finest and does not convey the power and heart they are capable of.
