T'rese (she decided to drop her surname, Theophile) is a Harrow-based singer with a smooth and silky voice. 'A World Of My Own' appears to be her debut recording and it allows her silky, versatile vocals to take on a range of home-penned songs (most co-composed with an N Scribbens). Some ("Our Love Is A Flame", "Do You Remember") are catchy pop takes with infectious choruses; others have a soulful flavour which induce a wonderfully calming effect. Nearly all these tracks are of the perennial male/female relationship theme, and none make any reference to God or matters of faith (although "Reach Out" would make a fine theme-song for a children's charity). Nor does any of the blurb on her website. The only thing that points to a personal faith is a printed prayer on the back of the liner notes, and a "thank you" to her personal angel. It also becomes very apparent that this rather striking lady has been jilted in the past - more than half the tracks relate to the pain of a partner walking out from a blissful relationship. Musically, T'rese has loads to offer and this is a pleasant album. It would be nice, though, to see a bit more variety in her songwriting.
