Applause. First song: a big choir sings a repetitive chorus, a female sings a few lines solo, the big choir sings the chorus, they go up a key… Second song: same again. Enthusiastic, up tempo. Third song: a slow one. Male soloist this time. But otherwise it sounds the same. And so it goes on. The faster songs work best, giving rein to the choir’s enthusiasm, the slow ones need, and fail to get, a more delicate touch, the really fast ones are more frantic than powerful. Lyrics tend towards ‘70s praise chorus cliché. One song, “Heaven Is My Home”, swings to good effect but for me the rest just doesn’t work. Competent enough, but nothing fresh and my ears got tired long before the choir did.
