The band list their influences as U2, Muse and the Doves, and you can hear them pushing through in this offering. "I Wasn't Ready" is the catchy opener, showing off the ample vocal skills of front man Michael Walker. Well produced by Dan Brodbeck, the album is a sonic feast, from the swirling guitars on "Nowhere Skies" to the punchy bass line on "Lately". A favourite of mine was "Usual To Me" with its slow Coldplay-like start and high vocals, building to anthemic chorus lines. On checking out their MySpace site to find out a little more about this four-piece, I found their bio which attempts to explain what they're about. Unfortunately I couldn't really catch what drives them, other than perhaps they wanted to write songs about themselves and the world they live in, which in itself is fair enough. There was too much of a wordy (worldly?) vision/mission statement. The band took their name from their desire to turn off all the distractions and the fact they just want to play music. It will be interesting to see how their own musical style develops on their next album.
