Bringing in the Haddon Brothers has done wonders for the veteran Detroit diva, moving her from the standard realm of black church traditionalist into the potentially lucrative R&B gospel field. Certainly Vanessa has the awesome pipes to make the transition, her Aretha Franklin-style phrasing swooping and soaring across lolloping programmed grooves works well, while the addition of guest rapper on "Make A Way" is a delight. There are some old style testifyin' and hollerin' like on the choir driven ballad "Do What He Said" to please her church-wrecking crowd. But it's the new, attention grabbing grooves which will attract most attention.
