Best known for fronting the Bournemouth-based rock bands Bosh and Chaos Curb Collaboration with occasional sortes into solo releases, here Dave offers an intriguing compilation with tracks spanning from 2004 to 2018. The opening cut "Going To Westbury" has a lovely intro that is reminiscent of Hall & Oates as it relaxes into a rolling pop rock groove that matches a good deal of the music on offer here. A slightly grimier mix, however, welcomes the material drawn from Bosh, as "Ashes & Rags" has a distinctly UK feel that mixes an edgy rock progression with hints of chart pop. A sparser arrangement features in the lilting "It's Always Now". One of my favourite tracks is the bass-driven "Self-Medicated", with its minor tones, that provides a great vehicle for Dave's excellent vocals that are both warm and edgy. Haunting guitars add to the driving pulse of the track. As would be expected from a compilation of this type, production is a mixed bag, but the range and variety of styles on offer provides an excellent record of one man's career in music. This would be a great starting place to investigate the eclectic work of Dave Griffiths.
