This collection of songs is the companion to the recent Pure Flix Entertainment film Samson all of the material here is based on the epic life story of the Biblical hero and performed by artists like Cindy Cruse Ratcliff, Seacoast and eight others on the Dream Records roster. As befits a film soundtrack the sonic landscape is cinematic and dramatic in nature and low-key in pace. Lyrically there are lots of references to finding strength in God, seeking redemption for tragic mistakes and calling down power. Best cuts are those specifically written with the life story of Samson in mind. Opener "One More Time" from The Rock Music is a standout; the intense, orchestrated backdrop matching the passionate vocal of Steele Croswhite as Samson pleads with God for a final act of revenge on his enemies. "Reconciled" sees the smooth, soul of Joe Kibble (formerly of Take 6) joining with Musitry as Samson seeks forgiveness and redemption. Flamenco-tinged "Forbidden Love" from the New Season Christian Worship Centre with its Spanish vibe references the tragic tale of Samson's dalliances with Delilah. "Strength And Victory" is a typical, generic-sounding contemporary number from Seacoast Worship. Lyrically the subject matter could have been developed in more depth while the different musical approaches makes for a rather disjointed listen. Overall, a hit and miss release with some highlights.
