The Veggie Tales gang are the Marmite of Christian music - you'll love them or hate them, and you may not be too sure about feeding them to your kids. This reviewer's son was a quick convert and found the variety of characters endearing. The Americanisms and humour may go over younger English heads at times, but "On The Road" features great wit, sound moral advice and plenty to entertain kids on long journeys. The production and arrangements are top-notch (something children's releases sadly seem to skimp on) - a generous helping of country, blues and funk with a sprinkling of music hall. "Bicycle Built For Two" and "The Wheels On The Bus" provide some familiar sing-a-longs, whilst "Stop! And Go With Mercy" offers no-nonsense advice for those of all ages. Between-song skits are mercifully short and succinct, with 15 songs packed into 40 minutes. The emphasis is on entertainment and good clean fun throughout and is surprisingly cringe-free, so long as the listener can tolerate a kid's chorus providing back up to our vegetable friends. I think I'll be taking the singing cucumber/tomato duo along on my next long car journey!
